 CAHAN TRAINING
Dana Carey , the Health Alert Network Coordinator and the Administrator for Region 4 attended and provided training on the California Health Alert Network (CAHAN) (www.cahan.ca.gov). CAHAN is a secure Web-based emergency alert system accessible anytime and anywhere for emergency planning and response communication with public health partners. CAHAN is the statewide mandated system for emergency notifications. Dana discussed the differences between the Alert versus Collaborative level users. Greg (KG6SJT), Ken (K6WLS), and LaVonne (K6LAV) were recently trained and have Collaborative level access; users at this level can send alerts and review online reports. ARES has the ability to assign as many members as we want to the Collaborative level. Additional training is required for Collaborative level access.

Dana provided a demonstration of the CAHAN callout system for emergency notification, including use of passwords, and how to confirm alert notifications. Yolo ARES can have the ability to alert ARES groups in surrounding counties if we wish. Red Cross and CERT team members are also listed on the CAHAN system.

 POINT OF DISPENSING (POD) TRAINING
Dana Carey is also the Strategic National Stockpile Coordinator, responsible for Points of Dispensing (POD) training. PODS are locations throughout the county which could be used to distribute medications in the event of a health emergency. The Yolo County Health Department has developed a series of free online classes to teach volunteers to assist with POD functions. The training is at www.yolopodclasses.org. This is a three-part course (each course is about 20 minutes) and includes:
 •  Introduction to POD operations
 •  Command Staff
 •  Manager

Next flu clinic is on October 31 (Halloween), at the Woodland Community Center. The vaccination staff is coming from WMH.

Dana also noted that Woodland Healthcare recently purchased radio equipment and is interested in collaborating with ARES. Darrin (KGFJL) will communicate with Woodland Healthcare.

 TREASURY STATUS
Darrin (KG6FJL) reported that the ARES treasury had a balance of $760.90 last month. The new balance is $712.54 balance after miscellaneous small purchases.

 NET CONTROL AND PRACTICE MESSAGES
Please sign up for net control and practice message responsibility if you have not done one yet this year.

 TECHNICIAN LEVEL LICENSE CLASS
Yolo ARES should get a Technician Level session started. Discussed the feasibility of modeling the class after the recent class that was conducted by Ken (K6WLS), Gary (WA6TQJ) and Greg (KG6SJT) for YARS, Red Cross and Mormon Church participants. Wes (WS6Z) offered to assist the other trainers with the class. Gary (WA6TQJ) will make sure that Diana (KI6PFR) is involved from UCD.

June 13-14 was suggested as the date for the training. Locations suggested were the Red Cross, the Woodland Library, or EOC at UCD. Darrin (KG6FJL) will communicate with the Davis Fire Department to see if they are interested in participating.

 FIELD DAY
Any interest in Field Day this year?

 MAPS
Wes (WS6Z) distributed maps generated from OpenStreetMap.org. Discussed the possibility of custom enhancing the maps using CloudMade Maps GPS services.

 EQUIPMENT AT FAIRGROUNDS
Yolo ARES equipment is still located at the Fairgrounds.
