Davis Fire Department Antenna Installation

July 19, 2008

1 down 3 to go!

Saturday morning at 9am Ken Wilson, K6WLS, and Darrin Ogletree, KG6FJL, met at the Davis fire department station 31 (downtown) to install the 2m/70cm antenna on the existing tower. Ken did all the tower work and Darrin did the ground work (note: Ken's new nickname is "tower monkey") We installed the antenna at the 60ft level and ran lmr400 into the radio vault.

Darrin tested the install with an antenna analyzer and it checked out perfect. He will go back during the week with a spectrum analyzer to check for interference and do a radio test to confirm that there is no interference or de-sense on the FD radios. This was a good step towards getting good coverage in and around Yolo county. We will do station 33 (mace blvd) next.

The plan is to run net control from each station to check for simplex coverage. BIG thanks to ken for all his help.
